Ask the Chief of the Anna Police:by Kenny Jenks A weekly column allowing readers access to useful information about law enforcement issues in the Anna area. Each week I receive requests for information from people in the Anna area. Having received repeat questions on the same subjects, I thought I would write a weekly column that might help answer some of these questions in the public forum. This column is the personal opinion of Kenny Jenks and is not the official opinion of the City of Anna or the Anna Police Department. Q: Chief, I wanted to compliment you on how your department works. I have lived in four cities and am extremely happy with the officers here in Anna. Ken –Willow Creek Dear Ken, Thank you for the kind words. I will pass your admiration on to the officers. Q: Chief Jenks, I recently moved to Anna from Louisiana, and we couldn’t drive on the shoulder to allow people to pass. Can we do so in Texas? Cliff –Westminster Cliff, Did you miss last week’s column? Shame on you! Section 545.058 o f the Transportation Code advises that a driver may drive on an improved shoulder to allow another vehicle traveling faster to pass. It is not only legal in Texas, it is courteous! Just make sure that the shoulder is clear up ahead. Thank you for the e-mail! *Phone numbers: Emergency???? Dial 911 to have a police officer sent toyou. In a nonemergency, call 972-547-5350. During normal business hours, the APD number is 972-924-2848. *For Crime Prevention information visit http://www.annacrimewatch.org or http://www.annatexas.gov and go to the police pages.
